Hybrid capacitor in TV remote controls

Maritex is introducing modern eco-friendly solutions from VINATech to its product range.

One of the latest solutions is the VPC (Vina Pulse Capacitor) hybrid capacitor, which has been used in a new environmentally friendly TV remote control from Samsung Electronics. For the first time, a hybrid capacitor has completely replaced a battery as the main power source in a TV remote control.

The VPCs are made of eco-friendly materials that help minimize carbon emissions throughout their life cycle, from production to disposal.

The VPC hybrid capacitor combines the advantages of supercapacitors and batteries by using different materials for both electrodes. Unlike ordinary supercapacitors, which have a lower energy density than batteries, a VPC of the same size has an energy density about 10 times higher. There is no risk of fire or explosion with VPCs. In addition, the number of charge and discharge cycles is more than 50,000 – 100 times longer than for ordinary batteries. In addition, the VPC can operate at temperatures from -25°C to +85°C.

At CES 2022, Samsung Electronics explained that, considering the sales volume and period of use, more than 200 million batteries will be saved. If these saved batteries were arranged in a line, it would extend from Las Vegas (USA) to South Korea.
